Hello! An introductory blog post

You guys… finally! I have been meaning to start this blog for longer than I would like to admit so here I am ready to start sharing. I am Shelbi Sloane, the owner and designer of Moonlight and Moss .

I started this business on the side while living in Houston, and shortly thereafter relocated to the beautiful Texas Hill Country where I now call San Marcos home. It is a small river town just south of Austin, and the perfect place to set up shop in the crazy and fun wedding industry.

I first learned how to sew in high school during a Home-Ec class where we learned how to make cinch bags and I instantly fell in love. From there I started teaching myself to sew, making my own patterns, and upcycling band t-shirts. During that time I had planned on going into Health Science but decided that my passion was actually in fashion. My Mom encouraged me follow my dreams (because she is the absolute best) but warned that it would not be a easy path… and yes, of course, she was totally right.

While attending Texas Woman’s University and studying Fashion Design I ended up with a job at a local bridal boutique and it was there that I affirmed my love for all things dresses and wedding gown related. Not only was I surrounded by ah-mazing dresses but I was also working with sweet brides during such a joyous time their life, that I knew this was the industry for me. From there throughout college I focused on wedding gowns and created a small collection senior year.

After college I moved to Houston and worked for a fashion designer where I was overseeing the in-house garment process as Production Director and Assistant Designer. While this was exciting and I was learning more than ever I knew I wanted to design more. From there I started to do custom bridal on the side and I realized I needed to make this my main priority and focus. Shortly thereafter, the company I was working for shut down and my boyfriend Michael and I found ourselves relocating to San Marcos to be near Hill Country vibes and a much needed change of pace.

Since moving to San Marcos, the growth has been steady and so rewarding. I have met the coolest wedding vendors in the area that I now call my best friends and have been honored to work with a variety of amazing brides. In the last year I have had the joy of making custom wedding gowns for brides all over Texas including Austin, Dallas, and Houston and I am so excited to see where this journey continues to take me!

Now that this blog has officially been started I look forward to sharing behind the scenes of the process, real wedding features, and some of my favorite wedding trends. I can’t wait to share more with you!
